The Roslyn Gristmill - A current restoration example that could help us
The Roslyn Grist Mill is located along Old Northern Boulevard in Roslyn, New York, (north shore of Long Island). It was built sometime before the mid-18th century and is one of the few surviving Dutch colonial commercial frame buildings in the U.S. A full grassroots restoration effort is currently underway. 2018-2022 is reconstruction plan. The mill is roughly of the same age as the Col. Henry Beekman mill, so it possibly offers some design clues. The effort there includes grant writing, getting donors, acquiring permits, hiring architects, dealing with wetland, etc. – all very similar to our expected efforts. We can learn a lot from these people.
This website seems to be the starting point (but there are plenty of stories out there on this reconstruction):

Of particular interest is their funding resources. According to their website: “From 2015 to 2020, $3.1 million was from New York State, Nassau County, trusts foundations and members of the government grants, trust awards and members of the Roslyn Landmark Society.”
